Shift, 2021
This work rises out of the struggle and determination to find new meaning in my relationship with photography. Fueled by this craving I uncover a new power dynamic in which I prioritize my physicality as creative agency.
By physically engaging with my materials on a larger scale I fully embody my creative process. Relying upon touch, sound, and somatic perception I am able to blend body and materials into compositional partnership. I enter into a state of embodied perception to navigate this physically and psychologically unfamiliar territory. As this multisensory, felt experience gathers momentum I encounter multiple selves, playfully traverse the unknown and meet with fear and unease.
While performing this visceral process I am reminded of the psychological fortitude, presence and bodily instinct that make possible a fluid and malleable existence. A continual state of transformation envelops the human experience and the creative process itself.
